Why
CAVEAU?
In French Caveau (pronounced Ca'vo) translates to vault, and also
refers to a small wine cellar. More importantly, Le Caveau was
the name of the famous literary, wine & gastronomic society
formed in France in 1792 (perhaps the first food & wine society),
which appealed since books, food and wine are passions we share.
Who
is the chef?
Peter Sheppard. He trained at Banc - a top Sydney restaurant which
was awarded three hats by the SMH Good Food Guide, and was also
named Best Restaurant in the SMH GFG and Gourmet Traveller. Sadly,
since Peter left in December 2002, Banc has closed its doors and
its great head chef, Liam Tomlin, has since left Australia.
After
leaving Banc, Peter opened Reflections Waterfront Restaurant in
Huskisson, Jervis Bay on the South Coast of NSW. He had Reflections
for a year, during which time it attracted a loyal following and
was lauded in publications including the GFG, Gourmet Traveller
and Delicious Magazine. Peter opened Caveau in May 2004.
Trading
hours & other info
We are open for dinner from Tuesday to Saturday from 6pm.
Reservations are highly
recommended.
We
have a private dining room upstairs and the chef delights in creating
special degustation menus to suit your party. We also do amazing
canape functions. We love these! Giving people the freedom to
move and mingle, while still providing fantastic food (even mini
beefs with truffle hollandaise, and mini duck rillets!) and drinks.
We recommend canape functions for groups of more than 20. Our
lounge and private dining area are available, or for groups of
more than 60, the entire restaurant can be booked.
Do
we cater for children?
Caveau welcomes well behaved children only, and encourages families
with young children to dine early, during which time we can offer
your children special attention. We encourage you to encourage
your children to participate in a fine-dining experience and will
adapt our menu to suit their needs, but do not serve traditional
"kid's meals" - such as chicken nuggets and chips. A small beef
or a small piece of fish? Or a small pasta dish can be soft eating
for younger children. If you have two children, encouraging them
to share an entree and then share a main allows them to participate
more fully in the meal.
Do we have Gift Vouchers?
We have gift vouchers for purchase at the restaurant. These make
a great gift for that special someone who has everything! Please
telephone or email the restaurant 24 hours in advance to arrange.
